Project: The Dream Project
Pen & Ink Sketches, Vector Art, & Videography: Hannah Wilson
The Dream Project for NEXT UMC is a six-week interactive Bible study that encourages college students to come up with ideas and projects that will make change in the world. The study and videos teach them how to make short videos of their own to submit with their project proposal to receive grant funding for their project. You can learn more at nextumc.org.
For this project, I drew 15 pen and ink sketches that were scanned and turned into digital files in Illustrator, then used as visual support for daily art challenges within the curriculum. After being given scripture references for each session of the study, I created vector “badges” that were used on the title pages of each session. I was given scripts to film and edit six videos to accompany each session of the study as well as a promotional video for the whole project.

The client requested a less traditional approach to the story of Jonah. They wanted to avoid the typical depiction of a giant cartoon fish and a man on the beach having just been spit out.

Project: Branding Update
Art Direction & Design: Hannah Wilson
The client wanted their logo to represent the flexible, laid back, natural environment of their beach community while still appealing to the traditional business professionals who live there. The waves not only represent the coastal community, but also serve as a reminder of the Holy Trinity that is central in the beliefs of the church. The letterhead and business cards carry over the soft, natural movement of the waves in the logo. And the warmth of the color palette brings together the physical warmth of the beach community with feeling of welcome and acceptance the church hopes to give its guests.

Isabella’s Libretto is a historical fiction set in Venice, Italy in 1715. The client wanted a watercolored look for the cover that depicted the main character in the book. The detail in the tile floor carries over to the back cover. The client also requested a pencil sketch of a Venice scene to be used opposite a page of historical notes about the novel.

Blackwell Proofreading & Copy Editing is a side project for a client who has a passion for words and writing. The quill and ink well are a nod to the origins of writing and storytelling. The handwritten style blended with the sans serif type represent the joining of the old and the new traditions.

This design was a nod to the Special Olympics motto: “Let me win, but if I cannot win let me be brave in the attempt”. The torch represents the beginning of the opening ceremony of the track & field event where chosen athletes complete a torch run into the stadium to kick off the games.

Project: Sermon Series Graphic
Design: Hannah Wilson
For this sermon series we partnered with the University of South Alabama’s Art History Museum to connect the tangible artifacts with the spiritual lessons each week. We held a free open house at the museum the first week of the sermon series and each week showed a short video filmed at the museum discussing the historical facts of that week’s sermon topic.
